Projects and Partnerships

Connecting Communities
A project of CLEO, the Connecting Communities initiative is a three-year pilot project to increase access to justice for linguistic, rural and remote communities by building the capacity of community based agencies to identify legal issues and provide basic legal information.

English as a Second Language Project
CLEO has developed materials at a range of levels to teach newcomers to Ontario in Adult ESL and LINC classes about their legal rights and responsibilities as they develop their language skills.

Facilitator's Guide Workshops
A CLEO coordinator is available to support workshops using our new publication, Facilitator's Guide: Introducing front line workers to CLEO's legal rights handbook.

Family Law Education for Women
CLEO participates in a consortium of community organizations called Family Law Education for Women (FLEW). The purpose of FLEW is to increase women's knowledge of their rights under Canadian and Ontario family law. FLEW has produced plain language legal information in many languages and in multiple formats on women’s rights under Ontario family law.

Gladue
In partnership with the Ontario Federation of Indian Friendship Centres and Aboriginal Legal Services of Toronto, CLEO has developed materials on Gladue to inform Aboriginals who appear in court that their heritage must be taken into account during sentencing. Helping parents without immigration status get their children into school
In Ontario, it is against the law for a school to refuse to admit a child who is under 18 years of age only because the child or the child's parent or guardian is in Canada without immigration status. This online resource is for community workers and is meant to help them help parents who do not have immigration status register their children for school. The webpage has basic information about the law and links to relevant resources, and suggests ways community workers can assist parents.

Learn, Grow, Connect: Practicing Community Legal Education in a Diverse Ontario
CLEO has developed legal information in text and audio format on six high need topics in Chinese, Arabic, Tamil, Urdu, Spanish and Somali.

Refugee Law Changes
CLEO's new online resource about federal government proposals to change rules that affect refugee claimants in Canada (Bill C-11).

Your Legal Rights
Your Legal Rights is an online source of legal information for people in Ontario. It includes resources from hundreds of organizations in a variety of languages, Common Questions to help direct people to the information they need, an interactive map of key legal and social services across the province, legal education webinars for service providers, and the latest news and events on legal issues.

Your Rights. Your Language.
CLEO has developed legal information in text and audio format on seven high need topics in Chinese, Arabic, Tamil, Urdu, Spanish and Somali. (This project was formerly called "Six Languages Text and Audio Project".)
