Can the police arrest me in order to prevent a terrorist activity?
Yes, the police can arrest you if they have reasonable grounds to suspect that arresting you or having certain conditions put on you is necessary to prevent the activity.
If a judge finds that the police have reasonable grounds for their suspicion, the judge can order you to agree to certain conditions for a period of up to 2 years. For example, you could be required to agree:
- not to have any firearms or explosive substances in your possession
- to surrender your passport or other travel document
- to stay within a certain area
If you do not agree to the conditions, you could be detained for up to a year.
