Taking time off work: For new and expecting parents
Who is not covered by this law?
The rights described in Part One of this publication come from the Ontario Employment Standards Act. These rights apply to most employees in Ontario. They do not apply in workplaces that are regulated by the federal government, for example, banks, airlines, and broadcasting. Workers in those industries are covered by the Canada Labour Code. Those workers also have rights to parental and pregnancy leave but some of the rules are different.
