{"id":46155,"date":"2012-05-25T17:32:40","date_gmt":"2012-05-25T21:32:40","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2026-04-20T16:24:35","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T20:24:35","slug":"does-guideline-apply-all-tenants","status":"publish","type":"publications-page","link":"https:\/\/www.cleo.on.ca\/en\/publications-page\/does-guideline-apply-all-tenants","title":{"rendered":"Does the guideline apply to all tenants?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The guideline does not apply to the following types of housing if no one lived there on or before November 15, 2018:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a building,<\/li>\n<li>a new addition to a building,<\/li>\n<li>a land lease community, or<\/li>\n<li>a mobile home park.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And the guideline does not apply to a self-contained apartment in a house that was created after November 15, 2018. But this is true only if the house had no more than 2 units before that date, <strong>and<\/strong> either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the owner lived in another unit in the house at the time the apartment was first lived in, or<\/li>\n<li>the apartment was created in what had been an unfinished, like a basement or attic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In these units, the landlord can increase the rent by any amount they choose.
