These are areas both inside and outside the building that are not part of tenants&#8217; rental units. For example, your landlord must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>keep halls, elevators, stairways, and the lobby clean,<\/li>\n<li>keep laundry and garbage rooms clean,<\/li>\n<li>do yard work like cutting the lawn, and<\/li>\n<li>shovel snow and keep ice off driveways and sidewalks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your landlord can pay you or give you something else of value so that you do some of the maintenance work. But it must be clear what work you have agreed to do and what you are getting in return.
