For more information, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleo.on.ca\/en\/publications\/pregparnt\">Taking time off work: For new and expecting parents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Getting benefits while on leave<\/h3>\n<p>Your employer does not pay you when you take one of these leaves. But you may be able to get money from Employment Insurance (EI) and other benefits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Long-term illness leave<\/strong>: You might be able to get EI sickness benefits for up to 26 weeks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Family medical leave<\/strong>: You might be able to get EI compassionate care benefits for up to 26 weeks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Critical illness leave<\/strong>: You might be able to get one of these EI benefits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Family Caregiver benefit for adults can be up to 15 weeks<\/li>\n<li>Family Caregiver benefit for children can be up to 35 weeks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Child death leave or crime-related child disappearance leave<\/strong>: You might be able to get the Canadian Benefit for Parents of Young Victims of Crime for up to 35 weeks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Organ donor leave<\/strong>: You might be able to get EI sickness benefits for up to 26 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>You might also be able to get benefits from the Program for Reimbursing Expenses of Living Organ Donors (PRELOD).
