This means that you ask them to review and change their decision.<\/p>\n<p>You can ask for a reconsideration if Service Canada:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>refuses to give you benefits or you think the amount is too low<\/li>\n<li>tells you to pay back some benefits<\/li>\n<li>gives you a penalty or sends you a warning letter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You must ask for the reconsideration in writing. You must make sure Service Canada gets it within 30 days of when you got the decision.<\/p>\n<p>If you miss this deadline, you can ask for an extension. But you must give a good reason for why you were late.<\/p>\n<h2>How do I ask for a reconsideration?<\/h2>\n<p>You have to use a form called Request for Reconsideration. You can get this form online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/services\/benefits\/ei.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ei.gc.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Or go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">canada.ca\/en<\/a> and type <strong>ins5210<\/strong> in the search box.<\/p>\n<p>After you fill out and sign the form, you must take it to your local Service Canada Centre or mail it to a regional Service Canada Centre. The mailing address for Ontario is:<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">Service Canada<br \/>\nPO Box 2602<br \/>\nMississauga, Ontario L4T 0B1<\/p>\n<h2>What happens when I ask for a reconsideration?<\/h2>\n<p>Someone from Service Canada will contact you to talk about your EI claim. You can give them any new information you have and explain why you think the decision should be changed.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about reconsiderations at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/services\/benefits\/ei.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ei.gc.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Service Canada could:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>keep the original decision<\/li>\n<li>change the decision completely<\/li>\n<li>make some changes to the decision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They will tell you their decision in a letter.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not agree with Service Canada&#8217;s decision, you may be able to appeal to the Social Security Tribunal.
