This is called being &#8220;disentitled&#8221; to benefits.<\/p>\n<p>For example, this could happen if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you&#8217;re not available for work full-time, for example, you cannot work at all for medical reasons or you do not want to work certain hours,<\/li>\n<li>you&#8217;re not actively looking for work,<\/li>\n<li>you do not give Service Canada staff information they ask for, or<\/li>\n<li>you&#8217;re not working because there&#8217;s a strike or lockout.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And usually you&#8217;ll be disentitled to benefits if you&#8217;re outside of Canada. The chart on the next page has some examples of when this does <strong>not<\/strong> apply.<\/p>\n<div class=\"table-wrapper\">\n<table class=\"NormalTable\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"257\"><span class=\"fontstyle0\"><strong>You&#8217;re outside Canada to:<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"173\"><span class=\"fontstyle2\"><strong>You can stay for:<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"257\"><span class=\"fontstyle0\">get medical treatment that&#8217;s not easy to get where you live in Canada<\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"173\"><span class=\"fontstyle3\">as long as you&#8217;re getting treatment<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"257\"><span class=\"fontstyle0\">go with an immediate family member to get medical treatment that&#8217;s not easy to get where they live in Canada<\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"173\"><span class=\"fontstyle3\">up to 7 days<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"257\"><span class=\"fontstyle0\">go to the funeral of a close family member<\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"173\"><span class=\"fontstyle3\">up to 7 days<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"257\"><span class=\"fontstyle0\">visit an immediate family member who&#8217;s seriously sick or injured<\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"173\"><span class=\"fontstyle2\">up to 7 days<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"257\"><span class=\"fontstyle0\">go to a job interview<\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"173\"><span class=\"fontstyle3\">up to 7 days<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"257\"><span class=\"fontstyle0\">look for a job<\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"173\"><span class=\"fontstyle3\">up to 14 days<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p>You can get your benefits started again if you prove that the reason why you were disentitled has stopped.<\/p>\n<div class=\"box\">\n<p>If Service Canada cuts off your benefits, you have <strong>30 days<\/strong> to ask them to reconsider. This means asking them to review and change their decision.
