OW can reduce or cut off your assistance if you are not trying to find and keep work.<\/p>\n<p>But they may not do this if they think you have a good reason. This is known as having &#8220;reasonable cause&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2>Reasons for quitting or not taking a job<\/h2>\n<p>Examples of &#8220;reasonable cause&#8221; to quit or refuse to do a job might include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a workplace that is not safe or is dangerous to your health<\/li>\n<li>having a health problem that stops you from doing your job<\/li>\n<li>sexual harassment at work, or harassment for other reasons like race, religion, or sexual orientation, or because you have a disability<\/li>\n<li>needing to be at home on a regular basis to care for a child<\/li>\n<li>having no way to get to a job because public transit does not go there<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When your OW worker is deciding if you have &#8220;reasonable cause&#8221;, they should meet with you and listen to what you have to say.<\/p>\n<h2>Giving proof to OW<\/h2>\n<p>If you quit or refuse to take a job for health reasons, you need to give your OW worker a letter from your doctor.<\/p>\n<p>You will also have to show your OW worker your Record of Employment (ROE) and any written notice that you get from an employer.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure you tell your OW worker if you have taken any steps against your employer, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>making an Employment Standards claim with the Ministry of Labour<\/li>\n<li>making a union grievance<\/li>\n<li>making a human rights application<\/li>\n<li>suing your employer in court<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-46687","publications-page","type-publications-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>What if I want to quit a job or refuse a job offer? - CLEO (Community Legal Education Ontario \/ \u00c9ducation juridique communautaire Ontario)<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cleo.on.ca\/en\/publications-page\/what-if-i-am-already-working-or-if-i-am-offered-job\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_US\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"What if I want to quit a job or refuse a job offer? - CLEO (Community Legal Education Ontario \/ \u00c9ducation juridique communautaire Ontario)\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"OW expects you to take steps to get a job and keep any job that you have.
