Citizens&#8217; rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Every resident has the right to exercise the rights of a citizen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #DB7E06;\"><strong>In other words:<\/strong><\/span> <strong>When you move into a long-term care home, you keep all of the rights you have as a citizen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These rights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<\/li>\n<p>your democratic rights, such as the right to vote<\/li>\n<li>your equality rights, including the right to be protected against discrimination<\/li>\n<li>the right to practise your religion<\/li>\n<li>the right to express yourself<\/li>\n<li>the right to meet with anyone you wish or join any organization or group<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You also have the right to decide if someone can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>open or read your mail<\/li>\n<li>look through or take your belongings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is true unless the law says that they <strong>can do this<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As a citizen, you also have responsibilities, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>respecting other people&#8217;s rights and freedoms<\/li>\n<li>following the law<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-53313","publications-page","type-publications-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>15.
