{"id":45401,"date":"2010-01-01T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-01-01T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2025-01-13T15:35:47","modified_gmt":"2025-01-13T20:35:47","slug":"evict-en","status":"publish","type":"publications","link":"https:\/\/www.cleo.on.ca\/en\/publications\/evict-en","title":{"rendered":"Does your landlord want you to move out?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Ontario, it is usually against the law for your landlord to make you leave your home unless the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) has made an eviction order. The LTB is a special court that deals with disagreements between landlords and tenants.<\/p>\n<p>A landlord must follow certain steps to try to get an eviction order. Your landlord must prove to the LTB that there is a legal reason to evict you. By law, only some reasons can lead to eviction, for example, causing damage or not paying rent.<\/p>\n<p>The information on these pages applies even if you live in public housing, or if your rent is subsidized or based on your income.<\/p>\n<p>But it might <strong>not<\/strong> apply in some situations, for example, if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you live in a place that is used for business<\/li>\n<li>you share a kitchen or bathroom with the owner or the owner&#8217;s close family member<\/li>\n<li>you live in some types of temporary housing<\/li>\n<li>you rent from another tenant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Get legal advice if you are not sure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":49509,"template":"","class_list":["post-45401","publications","type-publications","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Does your landlord want you to move out?
