Leaves and benefits for new and expecting parents
Steps to Justice now has an easy-to-use chart that shows the leaves and benefits available to new and expecting parents.
In Ontario, the Employment Standards Act gives unpaid pregnancy and parental leaves. Parents can also get paid Employment Insurance maternity and parental benefits.
Information for tenants about damage and deposits
Steps to Justice has updated information for tenants when their former landlord asks for money because of damage. Usually, landlords must now go to the Landlord and Tenant Board to ask for money, instead of Small Claims Court. Landlords cannot keep a rent deposit or key deposit because there's been damage to a unit.
Updated information on employment law
Steps to Justice has updated information about the minimum wage increase that took effect on October 1, 2023.
